Director\Sr. Director Regional Search & Evaluation East Coast US

OBJECTIVES:



Please note that the requirements specified in this posting are the basic qualifications required for the Director, Regional Search & Evaluation position; however, job title will be dependent on the candidate's level of experience in those requirements.


  • Responsible for working closely with other relevant functions within the broader Takeda organization to (i) develop a BD strategy consistent with the core therapeutic area R&D and commercial strategies outside of oncology and vaccines (ii) identify and triage opportunities consistent with the agreed strategies and (iii) lead cross-functional due diligence teams to efficiently assess and prioritize in-licensing and alliance opportunities across the R&D pipeline.
  • The Regional S&E Director will perform a comprehensive, cross-TA, business development scouting role for his or her assigned region.
  • Working in close partnership with the core Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) leadership teams, identify and drive major in-licensing and research alliance opportunities that will help deliver upon the external Drug Discovery innovation strategies of the PRD


ACCOUNTABILITIES:



  • Proactively monitor the commercial and academic landscape for all external discovery and development stage innovations that address product gaps across the R&D pipeline.
  • Effectively liaise with and convey TA-aligned later stage product in-licensing opportunities to the appropriate S&E Therapeutic Area specialist.
  • In close partnership with the DDU leadership teams, actively prospect for and help drive major preclinical collaborations and research alliances with Pharma/Biotech and Academic/Not-for-Profit institutes that will enhance the DDU pipeline.
  • For major DDU in-licensing/collaboration opportunities:

    • Be the GLBD point of contact with the sponsoring DDU and the external commercial/academic collaborators.
    • Coordinate technical evaluation and due diligence teams where appropriate.
    • Prepare presentations/proposals for Senior Management approval.
    • Liaise effectively with GLBD’s licensing transaction teams to consummate deals.

  • Effectively bridge breakthrough science and/or transforming technology platform opportunities with the Takeda Venture Investments group within GBLD and the New Frontiers Science Group within R&D.
  • Build a strong outreach program by establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with senior management and business development groups of potential partner companies, key PI’s and Tech Transfer groups at major Research Institutes and the Venture community
  • Be an ambassador for the Takeda GLBD brand ensuring Takeda is perceived as a”Partner of Choice”.


Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree is required; training in a biological (pharmacology /biology/biochemistry) discipline preferred.
  • At least 6 years experience in the Pharma/Biotech industry, preferably in drug discovery in one or more of the following core TA’s: Metabolism-Diabetes, CNS, Immunology-Inflammation-Respiratory and General Medicine (includes GI, GU).
  • Must demonstrate scientific knowledge and gravitas to hold/drive meaningful scientific discussions with industrial and academic experts and key opinion leaders across TA’s and different areas of applied science.
  • A track record of success in sourcing/driving significant business development opportunities in a commercial and/or academic arena
  • A well established commercial/academic network is strongly preferred along with a progressive knowledge of innovative alliance structures, industry trends and competitive issues related to pharmaceutical business development.
  • Creative, results oriented self-starter with the ability to deliver.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.).


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.
  • Requires approximately _30-40_ % travel.
