Risk Manager

Job Location: Deerfield, IL

OBJECTIVE:



The position is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of the company’s risk management function. This position will provide thought leadership to identify and assess the various risks to Takeda’s assets and evaluate how these risks can be prevented, assumed, transferred or insured. This position is responsible for developing and managing the following activities: implementation of risk management best practices; evaluation of company risk profile; identification of risk mitigation programs and selection of cost effective insurance coverage.



ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Responsible for the identification and assessment of risks to Takeda’s property, personnel, and ongoing business activities in the United States.
  • Maintains relationships with insurance brokers, industry consultants, and insurers to develop, implement, maintain and update risk management policies, procedures and programs to meet the company’s changing environment.
  • Responsible for utilizing benchmarking and best practices to develop and improve risk management strategies and programs.
  • Responsible for overseeing the collection and review of underwriting information and preparation of professional submissions for commercial insurance renewals.
  • Responsible for reviewing all insurance policies for accuracy, recommending appropriate loss retention levels (deductibles, self-insurance levels, etc.) and negotiating insurance coverages, provisions, and premiums in the local insurance markets.
  • Overall management of the company’s certificate of insurance program, including issuance and receipt of required certificates.
  • Responsible for reviewing and negotiating contractual liability and insurance issues with external service providers.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Responsible for conducting periodic inspections of Takeda’s manufacturing, office and warehouse facilities, interpreting appropriate broker and insurer recommendations, and assisting in responding with a strategy for loss prevention.
  • Responsible for the oversight and evaluation of the driver fleet safety program.
  • Responsible for developing and evaluating the financial impact of risks that cannot be eliminated and select the most efficient method of protection; determine a financial strategy for insuring or retaining these risks.
  • Responsible for analyzing and reporting the company’s total cost of risk and formulating solutions to minimize this cost.
  • Oversee the proper handling and settlement of non-products claims against Takeda.
  • Perform claim audits with TPA/broker to validate reserving practices; perform claim reviews to develop claim closure strategies and obtain refunds for amounts improperly incurred by insurers within SIRs and deductibles.
  • Analyze costs associated with all claims handling and develop/implement a strategy to improve risk performance.
  • Assess risk management information systems and select/implement the system most appropriate for the company.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


Required:


  • Minimum 6 years of risk management experience
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Broad management skills; capable of interfacing with all levels of personnel at operating units and corporate staff.
  • Team Orientation – ability to work effectively on teams and to work closely with clients and subject matter experts.
  • Must have very good analytical skills and significant verbal and written communications abilities.
  • Should be “known” to the insurance industry.
  • Process team skills and the ability to succeed in a rapidly growing Japanese owned pharmaceutical company.
  • Management – ability to set priorities, develops workflow processes, and manages staff
  • People Development – ability to assess strengths and weaknesses of staff members and provide suggestions for improvements
  • Finance – comprehensive understanding of the concepts of cash management, financial analysis methods, and tools to prepare forecasts and perform analyses.
  • Risk Management – understands the concepts of insurance and risk mitigation.
  • Communication – ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner
  • Organization – ability to maintain accurate and detailed records, files, etc.
  • Computer Skills – can proficiently use various types of hardware an software
  • Problem Solving – ability to identify problems associated with and application and provide specific solutions that resolve the problem
  • Negotiation – ability to explore positions and alternatives to reach outcomes that gain acceptance for all involved parties
  • Analytical Skills – ability to analyze a wide variety of data in order to make informed decisions
  • Attention to Detail – ability to thoroughly analyze and identify key data points which impact the establishment and maintenance of new and existing accounts


Desired:


  • Minimum 3 years of corporate risk manager experience
  • MBA, CPCU, or ARM or other IIA course work
  • Knowledge of contracts and clinical trial studies
  • Industry Knowledge – comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the prescription drug distribution process in a large healthcare organization or prescription drug vendor
  • Takeda Operations – comprehensive understanding of Takeda’s operating structure and methods including a thorough knowledge of the foreign-owned parent company
  • Company Policies, Procedures and Process Flows – understanding of how work is done and flow of business within Takeda


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Ability to drive to or fly to various meetings/clients sites – limited overnight. Some international travel may be required
  • Manual dexterity required too operate office equipment (i.e., computers, phones, etc.)
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects
