Job Description

About the role:

The Associate Director, GMAO Congress Strategy Lead will be responsible for driving the development of multi-year strategy and planning the road map for key oncology congresses. As a member of Oncology Congress Resource (ONCORE) Core team (the cross-functional congress planning team), the Congress Strategy Lead will be the medical representative to develop and drive alignment on the cross-portfolio congress strategy, to implement best practices, and to partner with cross-functional teams for optimal congress planning and execution. As a member of the Medical Excellence, Training & Outreach team, the Congress Strategy Lead will partner with the External Scientific Engagement Lead and with the Independent Medical Education and Grants Lead to develop an overarching strategy for effective outreach at congresses.

How you will contribute:

  • Co-develop Oncology external engagement strategy and lead the development of the cross-portfolio congress strategy and narrative for global congresses. 

  • Liaise cross-functionally within Global Medical Affairs Oncology, and with OTAU/R&D, Commercial, Patient Value, Policy & Access, and Corporate Communications (and other key partners as appropriate, including CMO and regions/LOCs) to ensure cross-portfolio alignment and prioritization, and a one Takeda approach to congress strategy, objectives, and execution.  

  • Drive the development of the congress planning roadmap, and a shared calendar for key events and meetings for each global congress.  

  • Develop and execute on a cross-functional congress communication plan, and act as liaison to the ONCORE Steering Committee and Oncology Leadership Team (OLT) to seek input, align on expectations and provide proactive updates on congress planning and progress. 

  • Support the execution of pre-, during, and post-congress medical activities and communications. 

  • Partner with other functions, including Medical Information & Review, to identify and implement best practices, and to evaluate innovative and emerging media and technologies to define and measure successes and increase Takeda Oncology’s impact at congresses. 

  • Partner with global, regional, and local compliance to educate relevant cross-functional teams on respective national regulations for GMAO’s congress-related activities. 

  • Become a subject matter expert on Takeda Oncology products and act as a resource to provide scientific expertise.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant SOPs, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, PharmD) in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 5 years of healthcare or related experience, inclusive of 3+ years of experience with the development and execution of congress-related deliverables, within medical affairs in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or within a medical communications agency.

  • Master’s degree in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 8 years of healthcare or related experience, inclusive of 6+ years of experience with the development and execution of congress-related deliverables, within medical affairs in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or within a medical communications agency.

  • Proven leadership/relationship-building skills, strategic problem-solving ability, ability to foster teamwork, drive decision-making, and manage change in a complex, cross-functional, cross-cultural, global team environment. 

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical guidelines and regulations.

  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills.

Preferred:

  • Tradeshow and/or meeting planning experience (lead or contributor). 

  • Experience in medical affairs, medical education, scientific/educational granting, or related experience in the pharmaceutical industry.   

  • Experience overseeing and managing budgets, projects, and vendors to ensure performance versus targets. 

  • Experience with oncology, with broad product/disease area knowledge.

  • Experience using diplomacy, influence, and negotiation to secure positive outcomes.

Travel requirements: ability to travel up to 25% per year including international travel.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
